"...This is a conversation the AW world has been having for years, our sport meets all the criteria but the WAF can't get themselves organised for the greater good, there was talk of them joining FILA, the world governing body of all wrestling sports but at a cost of $50000 per year, decided they didn't want or need the representation. Considering there are 50+ member countries in WAF, the cost could easily have been split. Sadly they seem to want to stay an insular and minority sport, at the same time they wonder why funding, sponsorship and growth are so hard to come by. Neil was telling me at last years worlds that he was admonished for hosting the 2006 worlds at the Trafford centre and having the athletes matches shown on the big screen, it seems that none of us want the public to watch what we do.
In short there is too much politics involved at WAF level for them to ever get there act together and present this sport to the IOC in a positive way that might actually lead to it's inclusion in future games.
Neil is in the best position to comment as he's been involved with WAF for such a long time. maybe he could shed some light on the subject..."
