Strongman: Sports you compete in -
Previously: Football, Wrestling, Track, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting
Currently: Strongman, Olympic Lifting
NW Strongman: Hobbies other than weight training:
There's a life outside of training? I spend as much time as possible with my 3 year old son, Dawson. (He recently deadlifted his bodyweight - 35 lbs for a double!)
NW Strongman: How did you become interested in Strongman?
I saw it on TV when I was in the 9th grade. I weighed 175 lbs at 6'3" back then.
NW Strongman: When was your first competition?
Big Sky Strongest Man 2001, Missoula, MT, 3rd place.
NW Strongman: Tell us about your training. Do you train alone or with partners? Are you able to train the events year-round? If so, how?
I've trained alone for the most part, except when I was playing FB for Montana State University. But even then some of my best workouts were done on our days off, by myself. I now plan to train the events year-round. I've slowly aquired most of the implements needed thanks in large part to help from J.V. Askem.
NW Strongman: Favorite Strongman event:
I love em all.
NW Strongman: Strongman you most look up to:
I admire the qualities of every winner, and don't have an idol.
NW Strongman: During an event, what goes through your mind? What do you do to motivate yourself?
On most events, I think about speed, exploding into the weight, and moving it as fast as possible. I'm too motivated most of the time. Chilling out is my biggest challenge.
NW Strongman: What is a normal week like for you, with regard to training?
I train in the morning after pounding a huge breakfast. I've just gone from training the events once a week to every four days. My gym training is mostly olympic style lifting, and I like to lift every day.
